Ideas need silence
Notes on turning the notifications off.

Some of my best design ideas arrive when nothing is asking for my attention. I used to treat silence as wasted time. Now I schedule it.
Every Thursday morning I take two hours without messages, without a screen full of tabs, with a notebook and a pen. I do not try to solve anything. I only write down what I am noticing about the problem in front of me.
Most of what comes out is rubbish, which is fine. A few lines are the start of something. Without the quiet, I would never have found them.
